How can you make money from agroforestry?

    • By selling fruits, vegetables, wood, and animals produced in the agroforest (according to experts, agroforestry produces 5 to 10 times more than conventional monoculture production per hectare of land).
      • It produces food without agrotoxins and fertilizers that are bad for our health.

    • Selling the carbon credits produced by the agroforest.

    • Agroforestry goes very well with bee production. That's why many farmers also sell honey, propolis, honeycomb, etc.

    • As this is still a new practice, farmers can sell their expertise in courses, lectures, etc.
    ...

The course we intend to buy is the Independent Learner which costs €480 (approximately $530.00)

    Hi MalcomLeed,

It depends a lot on what you are going to grow and the products you're going to sell.

However, in general, by selling leafy greens (that's the crops with the quickest and easiest return) you can make roughly $60,000 to $150,000 per year on 1 to 1.5 acres of land (without selling carbon credit). With a margin profit of roughly ~45%.

About the Carbon Credit. Roughly you can plant between 300 to 800 trees in an acre of land. It also depends a lot on what type of trees you will use. As in agroforestry to enrich the system (more biodiversity enriches the soil) you need to maintain a variation of species - especially native species. With 1,000 trees you can sell carbon credits for $50,000 to $250,000 in a 40-year contract. Just remember that once the trees are planted and of a certain size, the income is almost 100% passive for selling the carbon credits. And the prices of carbon credits are rising almost every year.

Nowadays people are also renting some land to produce food and sell carbon credit.

I'm from Europe but I'm living in the south of Brazil right now. I know some Americans and Europeans that rent or buy a lot of acres of land to produce food using agroforestry style and also to sell the carbon credits.

In one hectare of land, you can plant roughly 1,500 to 2,500 trees.

Seems like the most crazy setup for passive income lol. However I really love the idea of helping the planet at the same time. If only I actually owned some land.

    Hi dungai,

I too like the idea of assisting nature (and helping us by taking care of our environment). Ernst Gotsch the Swiss agriculture specialist who created this technique. He reforested a big land in northeast Brazil where he plants high-quality Cocoa and sells it worldwide, especially to Europe. Even springs and waterfalls came alive again because of that and he sells

The gardening food forest process is an active income. Only the part of selling carbon credits is a passive income because the trees do the work for you.

Moreover, this technique can provide 10 times more food than monoculture and 40 times more food than standard livestock. But the main cons are that we need more labor(s) and we still do not have mechanization techniques for all processes. It definitely needs to improve.
