While the product is being delivered I am investigating some websites related to spread trading

Has anyone heard of any of these sites or others like them and can you give your opinion?

SeasonAlgo and MRCI are competitors - They both provide Seasonal characteristics of spreads. That's a good starting point if you want to trade seasonals. But knowing why will make you a better trader. For example : Heating oil (HO) demand is high in winter months and gasoline (RBOB) in Summer months. That 'coz heating oil to heat homes in winter and gasoline so people do outdoor activities and drive in summer. This simplistic understanding will tell you if the HO demand will be less if the weather prediction is warmer winters or a COVID kind of time when people don't travel.

As far as Spreadplanner or Spreadcharts - I don't know but looks like they are also coming with some seasonal trends. And oh, everyone started using AI for the sake of saying they are cutting edge - that's B.S.

BTW, you can do the same on a chart plotting the two or three legs you want to spread and see why and when it moves.

Can you use this methodology for quick scalping a couple of ticks multi[ple times a day? Or is this more based on swing trading?

Scalping is more of a high liquidity strategy where you get in and out in a jiffy to gain a tick here and tick there.

With Spreads you are dealing with multiple legs, so getting in out and out fast for a few ticks is not feasible and the synthetic market is not as liquid as the outrights that make them, let alone getting a favorable fill.

Plus you don't need to scalp as you have a hedging position to begin with.

I swing for big returns- and also take small profits fequently but not scalps

 

The essence of spreading is a mean reversion model. I've built intraday trading models and run backtests since the clubbuy was done; and have some good results now. I don't know what spread professor would bring to me; but my works are based on spreading and they're good for intraday trading.

 

I guess he predominatly shows you to do the 1SD back to mean fade trade and a lot of butterflies and condors - it could be both mean-reversion and also finding and riding trend based on technical patterns from what I read on this forum

well, it's the same in both options and futures when it comes to the structure of it -- but in futures, they are in different calendar months and in options they are different strike price. Obiously because you don't have multiple strike prices in futures and so the behavior changes.

In Futures -1 Mar +2Apr -1 May (1:2:1) will be the butterfly and -1mar +1apr +1may -1jun will be condor. This is equidistance in months so you can also do broken wing if you like

 

I have tried spread/hedge/arbitration for intraday spread and it is really difficult to maintain profitability

I think the swing has less risk and more profits over time

I conduct my own research and backtest my models. Maybe you should do it, too. If those EAs could make consistent profits, there's no reason to sell them.
